Big Mek Battle vs Uberdark – Wazdakka!

As per the previous Big Mek Battle, these psots are cribbed from an online competition with Uberdark so some of the commentary may be one sided. To start, once again, Uber’s initial post starts us off.

Sukigod (that’s me!)
OK, here’s the start of my Wazdakka conversion. Not much to see at the moment but ya gotta start somewhere, right?

I drew up a list of what I thought made Wazdakka, Wazdakka:

Dakka Kannon (of course)
Speed
Big, loud looking exhausts
Fat tires
Big Engine
Fixit (the grot – I know there aren’t any more rules for him but I want him anyway)

That’s a lot to try and fit into a small model. I’ve got as lot of ideas and in true Sukigod Big Mek fashion, I’ll just keep throwing stuff together until it looks right.

I know the new codex shows him canted forward, leaning of the handlebars in a real aggressive stance but I’m liking the idea of him being sooooo badass that he rides sitting back, lounging a bit – much like the lead clown biker from Akira.

One of my earlier thoughts was to go with a trike like the old Evil Iron model kit from Revell in the early 70’s (I still have one )

But that wouldn’t allow me ot do what I wanted to give the bike a sense of speed (you can see from the first real shot below what I’m using for that…

Then I dug through my bitz box and retrieved this…

It was a toy I pulled years ago from a garage sale or something like that – it’s a Disney toy from the movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire. It looked like it was the right size until I shaved away the warboss tabbard and sat him down – way to out of scale. Might be a nice platform for something else unique but not Wazdakka.

So I spent about two hours looking back and forth between the bikes and the deff koptas. I ended up settling on the deff kopta frame due to the engine. There was a design I saw, can’t remember where now, that used the trukk engine and worked out really, really good but I don’t want to loot too much :wink

That left me with cleaning up a messy chop job to separate the bottom half of the pilot and glue on the top half of the legs from a biker so I can custom make the top of Wazdakka out of various nobs bits. I’ll be having to get out some greenstuff so wish me luck on that!

Here’s the general layout and some of the starting pieces I’m trying to work into the design..

Because of real life this one will be a slow one for me, I’m hoping to get the build done in 3-4 weeks and paint it in 2-3 weeks.

Later!
