Ork Pants – Complete
Finished up the pants on the boyz. I worked out the color progression and changed the final two colors I had originally chosen. For the flax -colored pants the Balor Brown seemed like a desaturated step backwards so I decided to push it up one more step towards yellow using a 50/50 AP Tau Light Ochre/ AP Daemonic Yellow. This put me right where I wanted to be. I love the contrast without competition for the greens, though I do wonder if I’m ending up too close to my leather recipe. That’s why we test things and we’ll see what we get when we get there.
The progression:
CC Rhinox hide —> CC Mournfang Brown —> CC Skrag Brown —> 50/50 —> CC Tau Light Ochre —> CC Agrax Earthshade — AP Tau Light Ochre/Daemonic Yellow

After doing a straight jump to the Tau Light Ochre, I didn’t like the jump in contrast in one step (the left model above), so I did a 50/50 Skrag Brown/Tau Light Ochre in between (model on right), and the transitions smoothed ot quite a bit.

Started the blue pants right after and had some troubles right off the start. I’ve learned I have a hole in my color palette where the dark, desaturated blues live. I have plenty of blues, but they’re mostly bright and vibrant. The darkest blue I have actually sits closer to a purple so mixing black just makes is a muddy mess. I did do the best I had with the paints at hand with a note to myself to pick up those colors next time I’m at the shop. While I was trying to figure out what I was going to do, I completely forgot to take pictures of the steps – oh well. I do have shots of the finished dark blue pants as they are and the progression I used. This one is much simpler than the flax pants. 😉
