Top 10 New Music for 2025

Top 10 Music 2025

All right, folks. It’s that time of year where I list the top 10 most interesting musical things I’ve picked up this year. As usual, this means new to me, not necessarily new to the world. Sometimes it’s a few weks old, sometimes it’s 40 years old and I wonder where I was when it came out that I didn’t hear it then.

Note: This years list is actually 12 items long. Last year was a boring year as I only found 8 things interesting enough that I wanted to share with y’all. I’m making up for those 2 this year by extending this list.

BABYMONSTER – Drip

Here’s my customary K-Pop pick for the year. I’m also a sucker for a well choreographed dance video.

Creepy Nuts – Bling-Bang-Bang-Born

So, no, it’s not always female k-pop bands. This one is just fun to listen to and a decent head popper. And the band is called Creepy Nuts. Yeah.

JENNIE – like JENNIE

So, I spent a good part of the first half of last year listening to K/J-Pop so there’s a few at the beginning of this list. I love the drum and beats for this one, and there’s almost no melody in this – nearly all rhythm.

Beatpella House –

This is just as satisfying watching as at is listening to it. Beatboxing has come a long way since the 80’s. Even more impressive when you listen to them on a decent pair of cans.

AILIFDOPA – My Goblin

OK, still Japanese, but cool, intense choruses. That quick, chugging vocals scream Goblin.

Mt. Wolf : Life Size Ghosts

Screeeeeeechhhh!!!!! And here’s where we get genre whiplash… I was a fan of the Celtic and new age wave back in the 90’s and a bigger fan of what’s now called Shoegaze (Cocteau Twins are one of my favorite bands of all time). Ethereal, gentle, and imminently soothing. This is meant to be listened to with home system with a good spacial sound stage, or nice headphones, with the lights low and a couple of candles flickering in the corners.

Orbit Culture – “Vultures of North”

OK, ok, Enough of the touchy-feely stuff. Back to the aggro! I featured these guys back in 2022 and their new stuff is just as good. These guys are going to be going places.

WARHAMMER 40K ORK SONG || “WAAAGH”
Jonathan Young

Hahahah. A bit of an inside nerdy joke. Orks are basically Cockney soccer hooligans in the Warhammer 40K universe (or ‘Ooonivers). They can’t say “WAR” properly, ‘cuz they’re Cockney, so it always comes out at “WAAAGH!”. That’s why I named the the Warhammer 40K tournament “Waaagh!Fest!”. I believe this is going to be the new theme song for us.

Faderhead – More Is Never Enough

Another nerdy aside. I’ve been getting back into miniature painting and gaming this last year. One game I’m picking up is called Necromunda, a spin off of the Warhammer 40K universe. These battles all take place in a giant city called a Hive (a heavily polluted, underground industrial environment). My choosen gang, the Eschers, are a take on the cyberpunk movement of the late 80’s. While researching inspiration, I put together a playlist for when I’m painting my gang. Hard, low, aggressive, techno beats are perfect for this. I had never heard of Faderhead before this and it’s become one of my favorites.

Hyuna – I’m Not Cool

Ok, I was pretty sure I posted this last year (or even the year before), but that seems to not be the case. The song is a cool banger, but the video is awesome to watch, especially the center focused motion controls on the chorus.

Shockwire – Throwing a Bunch of Shit in the Fire

This isn’t the first video I’ve shared that has an “age restriction” from Youtube. Mainly due to language. Fun, silly, and something right out of my 20’s.

Wuki & Devo – Whip It

Of the mamy favorite categories of music I have, Covers is one I think is the most interesting. It’s crazy when you start digging into cover songs and  find out how many well known top hits were originally done by someone else (I’m looking at you Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton). Or, a song you’ve loved for years was a cover! (I’m looking at you Anthrax and Joe Jackson).

Though, technically, this is a collab, and not a cover, I think this fits the bill for me as itnot only stays pretty faithful to the original, but adds to the excitement of it and makes it better.

I am considering doing a weekly “Cover” song post on my Facebook page (along with my weekly sci-fi/fantasy artists feature), I just need to figure out a clever enough name/day combo for it.

Well, that’s it for this year. Here’s to you and yours finding more new music than you can listen to in 2026!
