Ork Shirts Options

Now that the skin is completed, I can start on the clothing for the new boyz. With my old army, every bog standard boy was painted in pretty much the same color scheme. Dirty whitish shirt, brown pants, red boots, leather accoutrements. This time, I wanted to try something different. I want to see what three different shirt colors look like with three different pant colors. That should give me nineviriations to spread around the mobs so they don’t all look identical. I do want them to look cohesive though so I made sure to choose colors that should go together or pretty neutral. I’m interested in more muted tones as I don’t want the clothing to clash or compete with the green skin, since that’s the defining characteristic of orks.

For the shirts, I’m going to start with the original “dirty white t-shirt” from days past. The second color I want to try is a medium, de-saturated blue/grey. The third is a “dusty black”, for lack of a better word. Black with enough grey to show details and shapes, but not be similar to the blue/grey of the other shirt.

I’ll cover the pants color choices when I start those.

First up, dirty whites.
Here’s the paints I used and the color progression.

Dirty off white/creamy/sandy tan
Rhinox Hide —> Mournfang Brown —> Tallarn Sand —> Ushanto Bone —> Agrax Earthshade wash —> Screaming Skull

Same layering technique for the blue shirts – the progression:

So, I’m missing the images of the blue shade/wash and final highlight. Once I reached the point shown above, I realized I had made the overall blue to light and bright. To tone it down, I had to buy a pot of Drakenhof Nightshade and I’m waiting for that to arrive to see about knocking down the saturation and brightness.

Later!
