Zaggy Blue Tutorial and a Metals Assembly Trick
Big update today! Well, maybe not big, but a lot of photos!
I fixed/finished Zag’s head last night and whipped up a the head for the final burna for my Kommandos mob while I was waiting for Zagstruk’s primer to dry. Here are both results…
Not too shabby for waiting around.
Here’s your hobby tip/trick for the day. Hate sanding/scraping off paint to get clear, clean surfaces for gluing? Here’s how to solve that. Get yourself some poster tack/sticky tack and put small amounts on the spots where you will be gluing the parts together down the road. Prime, then pull off the poster tack. Viola! Clean metal surfaces for glueing!
Ok, on to the real updates. All I got accomplished this morning was his pants and shirt. I had a mid-course correction on my paint scheme idea after looking around and making some decisions about what I was going to paint what. The original idea was to pretty much paint it verbatim to GW’s version. After doing some research I thought it would be cool to do the upper parts of the mechanical power legs in black and only doing the klaw feet in bare metals so it would attract your attention better to what makes him special – those powerklaw feet!
I came to the conclusion that black hat, black clothes, black metal… you see where this is going. I was looking for a little more definition between parts so I choose a blue. It’s still somewhat dark but doesn’t blend right in with the metal uppers of the legs. It also give the leather straps going all over and around his legs something better to stand apart from. So with that in mind I went after a final color close to a lighter navy blue. Here’s the process…
Necron Abyss Foundation – thinned like regular paint.
Regal Blue of the foundation.
Regal Blue blended through four layers to Ultramarines Blue
Ultramarines Blue mixed two layers to a highlight of Hideous Blue (my favorite blue higlight color and no longer available… dang)
A thinned wash of Asurman Blue to blend the transitions and shift the brightness down a notch towards a more subdued blue – more like a worn Navy/Air Force jumpsuit than denim.
The highlights might seem a little bright yet but I know they’re flatten out and not be so sharp after Dulcote sealing.
Later!
